New endovascular operating theatre

University Hospital of North Durham, part of County Durham and Darlington NHS Foundation Trust, has recently installed a multiaxis system from Siemens Healthcare as part of an endovascular hybrid theatre, which allows clinicians to treat patients with vascular problems in a minimally invasive way.

The system allows patients with blockages in their blood vessels, wherever possible, to be treated using ‘key-hole’ techniques. This includes angioplasties and stents that may be used to clear blocked arteries. In addition, the system can also benefit vascular patients with other diagnoses such as aneurysms and those requiring a combined surgical and endovascular procedure. The new theatre is available 24 hours a day, seven days a week.
