Ultra-rapid MRSA detection

Early detection of MRSA in hospital wards could soon be possible thanks to the development, by BLAZE VENTURE TECHNOLOGIES, of a new sensor that can identify growing MRSA in as little as ten minutes compared to traditional techniques that take up to four days.

By allowing near-patient detection of MRSA the Blaze rapid screening device can provide an early warning for clinical staff to help them reduce the spread of MRSA within the hospital. The new cost-effective sensor will be specifically designed for point-of-care use. Swabs taken from patients are simply wiped onto a special card that is then slotted into the sensor unit. A positive or negative result is available within minutes. Use of such a rapid screening tool for MRSA infection can protect patient throughput, make open wards safer places and improve the efficiency of use of isolation facilities.
