Additional ultrasound systems installed

To enhance the comprehensive services offered by Guy’s & St Thomas’ NHS Foundation Trust in London, two additional SONOLINE Antares ultrasound systems have recently been installed, complementing six Antares previously purchased, three of which use a combination of 3-Scape real-time 3D imaging and fourSight 4D imaging technologies.

One of the newest Antares is used in the emergency gynaecology department and Alison Smith, superintendent sonographer, said: “The team, headed by consultant gynaecologist Judith Hamilton, has been delighted with the system’s ease of use and excellent image quality.”

The other new Antares is used for antenatal care in the day assessment unit to assess problems that present in late pregnancy.

The remaining six Antares systems are providing pregnant women and staff at the fetal medicine unit at St Thomas’ and the McNair and breast screening units at Guy’s with advanced capabilities and more precise diagnoses.

The fourSight 4D imaging technology is proving especially helpful in fetal medicine because it is used to facilitate diagnosis of fetal malformations, such as cranio-facial abnormalities or spina bifida.

This helps to improve communication with neonatal specialists and parents, allowing necessary steps to be decided at an early stage.
