Impregnated wipe technology

The NHS has seen a significant increase in the use of impregnated wipes for cleaning and disinfecting surfaces.

PDI has recently updated its testing protocols and labels to reflect the new requirements, therefore. These include:

• Microbial tests are on extracted liquid. Wipe materials can hold the actives in the liquid. If the microbial tests are not on extracted liquid then you can not be sure that the actives are at the correct level.
• Microbial kill claims reflect the length of time a surface remains wet (the recent RCN Wipe it Out document stipulates ‘once a surface dries, all disinfectant activity stops’). PDI disinfectants typically work within 60 seconds.
• Running surface tests: current EN standards mainly rely on suspension testing. PDI is incorporating new surface test procedures on all its products as these more closely reflect the every day use of the wipe.
