Specialist neuroscience hospital, The Walton Centre NHS Foundation Trust, has expanded its outreach services with a new satellite clinic in Merseyside. The new, consultant-led neurology clinic is the latest in a series of initiatives by The Walton Centre aimed at taking specialist neurology services closer to patients’ homes.
Neurology services expanded
The clinic deals with first referrals for neurological conditions such as a first seizure; headaches; suspected demyelination; Parkinson’s disease and neuropathies. Patients can undergo diagnostics, blood tests, neurophysiology and radiology locally in Wirral. The extended outreach service follows discussions between clinical leaders from The Walton Centre and GP clinical commissioning leads in Wirral. Preliminary discussions are now underway with GPs in other areas about the possibility of setting up similar community clinics.
