A Smarter Way To Help Reduce Infection

There is no single solution to preventing infection and stopping the spread of germs, however, many studies published over the last 20 years have proven that good hand hygiene helps to prevent serious infections from spreading and can reduce healthcare associated infections (HAI’s) by up to 50%. As a founder member of the Private Organizations for Patient Safety group, GOJO Industries-Europe advocates making hand hygiene second nature to everyone in a healthcare setting.

It is crucial that everybody, including healthcare workers, visitors, and patients, understands the importance of, and complies with hand hygiene rules and regulations. As well as eye-catching signage, especially at key germ hotspots such as washrooms and waiting rooms, behaviour can be influenced by ensuring washing facilities are accessible, and well-stocked. Put simply, the right products must be available in the right place, at the right time.

It is therefore, important to ensure dispensers are regularly monitored. Until now, stock levels have had to be physically checked by staff; a system, which unsurprisingly, leads to dispensers running empty, or the opposite – being refilled when the previous stock is only half used, rather than risk running out. A huge waste of precious resources and money.

To tackle this problem, we have combined our extensive knowledge and expertise of skin and surface hygiene solutions with technology to create GOJO® SMARTLINK™ Electronic Monitoring Solutions. These two mobile apps are a smarter way to help reduce the maintenance time spent on dispensers, measure hand hygiene performance, and help prevent the spread of germs.

The GOJO SMARTLINK Service Alerts System is a preventative maintenance system that continuously monitors hand hygiene dispensers and provides predictive analytics that can enable improvements. The secure software web portal allows users to customise alerts and alarms that includes data on dispenser usage, estimated refill replacement dates, alarm status and history. This system also eliminates the need to rely on human judgement, giving the manager control to effectively plan stock replacement from their phone or tablet.

Meanwhile, the GOJO SMARTLINK Observation System helps reduce the spread of HAI’s through hand hygiene monitoring and clinical support to build and sustain hand hygiene improvement. This system provides feedback, delivers reports immediately for both hand hygiene and PPE compliance and saves valuable time. It helps to improve the efficiency of completing hand hygiene audits, delivering targeted reporting to help improve hand hygiene performance.

The GOJO SMARTLINK electronic performance monitoring technology combines with clinician-based support, smart service, and technologically advanced dispensers and formulations. Together, they make up the GOJO SMARTLINK total solution; helping improve and sustain hand hygiene performance and reduce the spread of infection.

Both SMARTLINK apps are available free from the Apple App and Google Play stores.
