Getinge launches Pro-CD – process challenge device

Getinge has been a market leader in the field of infection control for many years, building on its foundations and long history producing medical sterilisers since 1932. Since then, Getinge has aspired to spearhead technological developments in infection control in line with scientific understanding and healthcare guidelines. The portfolio of products and solutions transcends all areas of the surgical environment. Following a period of consolidation, over the past year Getinge has reorganised its business in order to ensure greater focus on surgical workflows and enhance the customer experience.

Getinge aims to work in synergy with hospitals, healthcare providers and SSD hubs, delivering safe and efficient healthcare in close partnerships. This partnership approach includes flexible commercial solutions tailored to the healthcare provider, the Getinge Academy – working with hospital teams training on use of equipment and best practice, right down to consumable devices that ensure hospital equipment and processes are working correctly and effectively.

Pro-CD – Process Challenge Device

One of the latest developments in ensuring a ‘total solution’ to customers is the Pro-CD, a process challenge device for Endoscope washer-disinfectors (EWD’s). In many ways the UK represents the forefront in standards of endoscope reprocessing. The Health Technical Memorandum (HTM) 01-06 offers guidance on the management and decontamination of flexible endoscopes. Section D – details tabulated recommendations of weekly tests, and states:

The use of a process challenge device, as listed in the weekly tests, is recommended to balance the overall testing of routine performance of both the cleaning procedures/washing machines and the consistent washing performance against the verification of the process. Process challenge devices are available to prove that the wash process is operating at the optimum performance as set up and reported by validation testing. Some devices can be used both for the cleaning efficacy test with the relevant test pieces and with a restricted device to impede the water flows under the tests.

The Pro-CD from Getinge is an auxiliary device for routine monitoring of automated wash processes for endoscopes in washer disinfectors. It provides a means of checking wash efficacy against soil and protein (particularly important in ensuring prion removal). A routine test kit is available for visual, semi-quantitative routine (weekly) monitoring of cleaning efficacy using a test soil strip. Additionally, a quantitative version is available, which is a certified protein removal test, that can be built into the quarterly and annual tests.

Using products which monitor the success or failure of the entire decontamination process, at relatively  little cost, help reduce hospital-acquired infections, consequently resulting in effectively managing your decontamination productivity, while ensuring patient safety. This will manifest itself in fewer cancelled operations, just in time delivery of sterile instruments and contribute to optimisation of the patient’s experience.

The Pro-CD represents another product at the forefront of innovation for Getinge UK. Following on from the Vac-a-Scope designed to provide endoscope transportation and storage in a protected and prolonged state using patented technology.

ED-FLOW

The Pro-CD complements the ED-Flow EWD – offering exceptionally fast asynchronous processing of scopes. The Getinge range of EWDs consists of three “error-proofing” machines – ED-FLOW, ED-FLOW SD and ED900 – each representing a breakthrough for a more all-embracing approach to infection control in endoscope reprocessing. The Getinge ED-FLOW EWD (endoscope washer disinfector) is saidto be the world’s first true pass-through EWD. Equipped with two asynchronous chambers, smarter and faster, the ED-FLOW allows the user to reprocess your entire brand and types of flexible endoscopes in an efficient flow through your reprocessing department. As well as being the only EWD to run such extensive programmes, complying with both national and international regulations in only 23 minutes.

Moreover, the Getinge ED-FLOW SD EWD has all the features needed to prevent endoscope reprocessing errors, thus eliminating defects in the washing and disinfection process, and ultimately adding quality and safety in the infection control in the endoscopy centres. The unique two-part disinfectant bottle designs, 86 cycle capacity, method of dosing and no manual opening of bottles isdesigned to guarantee no chemical exposure to the operator and no chemical fumes in the reprocessing room. While the ‘link basket’ system allows the endoscope to be transferred on the same load carrier from the Getinge ED-Flow EWD to the Getinge EDS8 (Endoscope 30 day Storage & Drying cabinet) without touching the scope saving more time, money and limiting the risk of damage during handling operations.

The ED-FLOW SD (single door) uses two separate chambers providing full flexibility and short cycles ensure swift turnaround times, the ED-FLOW SD is suitable for existing endoscopic departments performing a high number of procedures but unable to remodel their facilities. Thirdly the Getinge ED900 is said to be the perfect EWD for small endoscopy departments looking for high uptime and peace of mind when reprocessing flexible endoscopes.

Getinge consumables completes the Infection Control solution. From the Getinge Point-of-Care kits, through to Face Shield and detergents, the comprehensive portfolio of products supports every step of the workflow, ensuring consistent, reliable results. The Getinge UK consumables team consists of highly specialised personnel who provide advice and training around the consumable challenges in endoscopy departments. The company also offers expert consultation services to help optimise dosage levels, improve processes and assist with product selection.

Track and Trace

As a clinic or department using endoscopes, the responsibility is normally yours to ensure that important procedure data is captured and documented. Therefore, an EWD with a fail-safe traceability system is essential.

Getinge EWD includes two endoscope reprocessing solutions or a combination of the two to suit all hospitals’ needs. T-DOC EndoCycle offers data capturing from Getinge EWD machines while T-DOC EndoTrace gives you total traceability throughout the production cycle. The combination of T-DOC EndoCycle and T-DOC EndoTrace offers the optimal solution to take command of your endoscopes.

As demands on quality assurance increase worldwide, it falls on decontamination staff to keep pace with the new standards and new norms.
