Results of Curos Port Protectors study being revealed at IPS Conference

Discover the results of a six month study into whether staff compliance with Curos Port Protectors can reduce line-related infections - at an exclusive presentation at this year’s IPS Conference in Liverpool this month (September).

The study involved more than 1,000 participants and was carried out by Corinne Cameron-Watson, a Senior Infection Control Nurse at the Barking, Havering and Redbridge University Hospitals NHS Trust.

Patients and staff from four wards at both the King George Hospital and Queen’s Hospital were involved. There was an initial month of staff training before the study was launched then a benchmarking audit, followed by monthly audits during the study period.

All blood culture results for the previous six months and during the study period were reviewed to provide accurate results of bacteraemia rates related to lines.

Corinne is presenting her findings at the IPS Conference at Liverpool’s Arena and Convention Centre from September 28th – 30th.

She said: “At the end of the study all blood culture results for the previous six months as well as those taken during the study were reviewed. They provided accurate results of bacteraemia rates related to the catheter lines used and the findings are certainly very interesting.

“The results data will be the subject of a poster presentation at the IPS Conference and I’m looking forward to discussing the findings in more detail to interested delegates.”

Vygon representatives will be available at this year’s Conference on Stand 69 to discuss with delegates the latest solutions to many issues facing healthcare professionals today.

As well as the results of the Curos study Vygon will also be offering information on targeting Healthcare Associated infections (HCAIs) as part of its ongoing aim at ZERO campaign.

The campaign supports the national epic3, Winning Ways and Matching Michigan guidelines in reducing infection rates to zero.

Latest additions to aim at ZERO include ArterioSel® and paediatric VENE-K®.  ArterioSel provides a classic Seldinger technique for arterial cannulation with minimal blood loss and clear visualisation of arterial access, while VENE-K is the quick-release single-use tourniquet. The tourniquet has been popular since its launch six years ago, and the introduction of a paediatric version gives a better option for delicate skin and smaller limbs.
