‘Clean Between’ – renewing the focus on infection prevention

The recently published fifth annual report of the English Surveillance Programme for Antimicrobial Utilisation and Resistance (ESPAUR),1 highlights that in England over the last five years there has been a continued reduction in antibiotic prescribing, with total antibiotic consumption down by 6% over the past four years and now at its lowest since a peak in 2011, with improvements driven largely by primary care.
