Delivering the highest standards

A complete solutions provider, Getinge UK offers a comprehensive range of solutions for disinfection, sterilisation and infection control, designed for reliable and cost-effective performance. With a track record of award winning design and innovation, Getinge UK has developed a ‘one-stop-shop’ concept to provide total solutions for sterile services departments, ensuring the highest standards of infection control.

This concept is evident in the company’s total solution for re-processing endoscopes – the Getinge System, which takes care of the endoscope from ‘patient to patient’ and is aimed at minimising recontamination risks following decontamination. The system utilises the ground breaking ED Flow – offering exceptionally fast asynchronous processing of scopes. Clean scopes are then stored in the FD8e drying cabinet, which eliminates the need for manual handling by using the same load carrier as in the ED Flow – thereby helping customers to meet the recommendations of both the British Society of Gastroenterology (BSG) and Institute of Decontamination Sciences (IDSc).

Each scope is held in its own compartment – which also offers the advantage of eliminating problems associated with scopes touching, which can be an issue with other driers. The model is supported by testing and validation for the complete dryness test – including the toughest drying challenge which involves the testing of the duodenoscope raiser bridge channel.

Getinge UK’s complete solutions for endoscopy reprocessing are backed by an experienced customer support team and specialists, who can offer additional assistance with architectural planning, and tracking and traceability systems. As well as knowledgeable application specialists, Getinge UK has a dedicated consumables division of six field personnel that brings a wealth of experience to decontamination processes and infection control. In response to market and legislative changes, the consumables team provides advice, training and clarity around the consumable minefield in endoscopy departments.

Safe, reliable protection

Getinge UK is again at the forefront of innovation by offering two solutions in the form of Vac-a-Scope and The Sentinel. These systems are designed to provide endoscope transportation and endoscope storage in a protected and prolonged state, using patented technology. The approach involves vacuum packing or gas packing the endoscope. This is a safe and reliable concept used in many industries where a partial vacuum is pulled on a bag that contains a scope on a load carrier, or where air is replaced with an inert gas.

The bag is automatically sealed and the endoscope is held within the partial vacuum with a balanced air technology or inert gas environment which inhibits aerobic and anaerobic bacteria growth. This has the advantage that there are no added chemistries and makes it completely harmless to scope, for the patient and user. Both systems are fully validated and are as cost effective as traditional transportation and storage systems with the advantage that the scope is protected and tamper proof. The scopes can be packed both wet or dry, with storage times from 6 hours to 30 days. The scopes can be packed ready for protected transportation within 30 seconds as a fully independent monitored system.

Track and trace

With electronic tracking and tracing of reprocessed medical devices – including endoscopes – now demanded, Getinge UK has a full suite of products to successfully achieve this, all under the umbrella of ‘T-Doc’. A modular system has been developed by Getinge that allows your system to grow when your department grows, which provides much more than simply tracking and tracing. The new endoscopy modules are now the latest addition to this system. There is also a dedicated T-Doc division to advise, train, install and manage this vital part of the decontamination process.

Innovation

In addition to cutting-edge technology aimed at driving improvement in endoscope reprocessing, Getinge also has a track record in innovation across a spectrum of decontamination solutions. The Getinge 86-series, for example, is a smarter washer-disinfector – specifically designed to meet the challenges faced by CSSDs, clinics and practices worldwide.

The variety of available programs, time saving features and integrated process monitoring functions such as spray arm rotation, flow meter controlled dosing and circulation pressure monitoring ensure good cleaning outcomes while maximising throughput and efficiency – something that is very much needed in today's fast paced healthcare environment.

Advanced automation capabilities provide a choice of automated loading and unloading to minimise the need for staff intervention and to increase productivity. The high level of flexibility that comes with Getinge’s Automation System makes it possible to place washer-disinfectors even closer to walls, pillars and other critical parameters. What used to be a limitation for expanding existing installations is no longer an issue.

The GSS67H steriliser is also a huge leap forward for any CSSD. Offering process time savings and increased load capacity, this solution not only offers very fast turnaround, but also provides easy and economical operation. A process time saving of up to 30% can be delivered, while throughput can increase by as much as 70% depending on a number of factors, including type of load, start-up procedures and type of media.

Also meeting the needs of pioneering surgery, the Getinge da Vinci® solution is based on the Getinge 88 Turbo washer-disinfector – a multi-tasking system that allows you to process EndoWrist® instruments and most other kinds of surgical instruments in the same washer-disinfector – with reliable results.

The Getinge da Vinci solution consists of four ‘cornerstones’: the washer-disinfector, a special detergent, a unique customised processing program and a special wash-rack. When used together, these four cornerstones comprise a tested and verified solution, approved by Intuitive Surgical to be used as a part of the reprocessing instructions of EndoWrist instruments.

Service and training

Getinge offers a comprehensive training program to enable safe, accurate and reliable operation of all Getinge equipment and systems. Increasing worldwide demands on quality assurance mean tougher demands on decontamination staff to keep pace with new norms and standards. Consequently, Getinge Academy provides good basic knowledge in machine operation and the principles of good infection control, thus helping to assure that Trusts achieve maximum operational efficiency and full compliance with the toughest safety standards.

The Getinge Academy provides education and training to the decontamination industry either through independent courses that are City and Guilds accredited and IDSc approved, or specific product courses unique to Getinge. These include operator courses for Getinge equipment that are available to book through the company’s national academy.

The many areas covered by the educational programme range from an overview of The Complete Decontamination Process, which is suitable for all health professionals and decontamination technicians wishing to gain an understanding of the endoscope decontamination process; to Endoscope Decontamination for Managers, which takes an in depth study of the requirements of the JAG audit process.

Finally, the service department at Getinge UK has now expanded to over 100 personnel, which enables the company to provide the highest levels of service and support. All products are currently available through collaboration with the NHS Supply Chain, via the framework agreement. Getinge UK can also offer unique and innovative ways to finance your equipment requirements.

Getinge UK will be highlighting its products and services at the Digestive Disorders Federation (DDF 2015) meeting conference and exhibition, 22-25 June 2015 at ExCeL, London.
