June 2010
The newly re-branded KimVent range of VAP products and services designed to help critical care teams protect their patients from ventilator-associated pneumonia (VAP) has been launched by KIMBERLY-CLARK HEALTH CARE.

The KimVent oral care solution is designed by to provide consistent and comprehensive oral care during mechanical ventilation. Having the dedicated, purposedesigned equipment at the bedside helps promote compliance to protocol. KimVent MicroCuff Endotracheal Tubes also provide a superior tracheal seal designed to reduce micro-aspiration. Featuring an advanced microthin polyurethane cuff, the cuff length and cylindrical shape are optimised for increased protection against fluid leakage. The effective seal at low cuff pressure reduces the risk of tracheal trauma. The KimVent closed suction systems with Trach Care Technology feature a catheter with a rigorous, turbulent cleaning action to reduce bacterial colonisation by 89% compared to standard closed suction systems. The system also incorporates a PEEP seal, hinged valve PEEP seal and an integrated MDI port. For accurate diagnosis of VAP, the KimVent Bal-Cath bronchial aspirate sampling catheter enables bronchoalveolar lavage at the bedside. It allows safe BAL samples within a short period of time without loss of diagnostic yield and can be performed safely and accurately by clinicians where bronchoscopy is not readily or rapidly available.
