June 2007
In a strategic alliance with Howorth Medical, Maquet and Fulbourn Medical, OR Networks, developers of ORTV, has launched the OR3G Operating Theatre.

In order to provide the sterile field needed, OR3G Operating Theatres feature the Howorth Medical Exflow 90-5 Ultra Clean Canopy, said to be one of the most advanced ultra clean ventilation systems. Its inclusion means that the theatres are suitable for major orthopaedic surgery.

The Exflow is available in two sizes:

2.8 m2 and 3.2 m2, allowing the ORTV technology and entire team to operate within the clean zone. The integrated theatres offer the end-user an open protocol platform, thus giving freedom of choice over the surgical devices employed and integrated. The system also allows any number of flat panel monitors to be placed in the sterile field to display any image the surgeon wishes, whether from endoscopy,X-ray, PACs, EPR, pathology or patient monitoring.

Selection of the images displayed is made via the ORTV touch panel that may be mounted in the sterile field, or on a wall or desk. The touch panel also offers control of digital recording devices or video printers and live links to remote locations such as seminar rooms, lecture theatres or other hospitals for live operative tuition with full audio communications.

Leonard Morris, chairman of Howorth Medical, commented: “The opportunities offered by partnerships are always exciting for all involved, and this alliance with ORTV ensures Howorth remains at the forefront of operating theatre development, designing theatres that provide the most advanced facilities for healthcare practitioners, and therefore the best treatment for patients.”

The system can be viewed at Howorth Medical’s new showroom, where visitors can interact with a fully-fitted twin operating theatre, complete with working UCV systems.
